Hi and welcome to the find guitars online website! I am a guitar player of 40 years and in that time have played 1,000’s of shows and countless hours in the studio. I have played 100’s guitars, through 100’s of amps, always looking for that all encompassing sound that is flexible, yet unique to my style of playing.
Today, after several decades and a ton of trial and error, I have found that sound for myself. Now, I would like to share with you everything I have learned about the different styles of guitars, what makes them unique and how to find the best guitar for you, at the best price.
When I was 5 years old I got a hockey stick for Christmas. I’m not sure why as I was never really into sports, however, I picked up that hockey stick and played the best air guitar solo the world has ever seen! I mean it was epic, I twirled, I spun and for a whole 23 seconds, I was a Rock Star!
Since then, I bugged and pleaded with my parents to get me into guitar lessons. They wanted me start out with accordion lessons (back then, accordion was the instrument of choice for kids under 7), I was furious, and I bugged and bugged for an actual guitar.
When I was 7, I received my first guitar. I will never forget it! It was a black on black, Fender Strat copy, and I was ecstatic! The following January I started my first guitar lesson…
…and kept up my lessons until I was 17 years old. From there I joined several bands, and had my first real paying gig when I was just 19 years old.
Guitar Gear that Always Changed
Over the coming years, I was still playing with failry crappy guitars. By then, I had owned several Fender Strat copies, an Ibenaz double neck (I was really into Led Zeppelin at the time, and loved Jimmy Pages SG Double-Kneck!), a Les Paul copy, a Dobro Guitar (played as a regular acoustic) and a few others.
As well, I was playing through this really crappy transistor Peavey Amp and a ton of different pedals. My influences at that time were anything riff-rock guitar driven; AC/DC, Aerosmith, Led Zeppelin, anything that had a cool catchy guitar riff.
It wasn’t until my early to mid 20s, when I started meeting some musicians from Toronto Canada, that were really into Stevie Ray Vaughan and Jimi Hendrix. We used to jokingly call ourselves Stevie Ray Hendrix Band! (or Jimi Ray Vaughan, which ever you prefer!)
After a while, my guitars changed, and so did my amps and the pedals until I finally settled into a sound that is both flexible and sounds great!
